The Key West Library is hosting several terrific authors in December so be sure to take a break from holiday shopping to discover your next favorite book. On Tuesday, December 5, at 10 a.m., we will host another Café con Libros event with the authors of the Key West Writer’s Guild’s newest anthology, More Words from the End of the Road. The Key West Writer’s Guild is the longest standing writer’s group in Key West and, as one Amazon reviewer said, “Many of the authors are award winners and they all pour out their best work.” Then on Wednesday, December 6, at 6 p.m., novelist and journalist Robin Lloyd will give an illustrated talk about his new book, Hidden Cargo, set in Key West and the Tortugas in the period right after the Civil War. And on Tuesday, December 12, we enjoy another Café con Libros event with Judi Winters, author of the adult picture book The Ridiculous Horny Snail, An Ode in Two Acts. This love story features Madame Escargot and Monsieur Mollusque, told through a prose poem and vivid illustrations.
Speaking of great new reads, book club will be reading and discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures this month. Pick up your copy at the library today and join the group on December 13 at noon for a lively discussion.
If you’re feeling crafty, we have many creative outlets to choose from. This month in Ceramics Painting Class, we will make garden steppingstones. In Jewelry Class, we will make a variety of holiday earrings including angels, snowmen, and jingle bells. The Adult Craft class offers a different craft weekly with snowman wineglasses and New Year’s luminaries included in the mix this month. For our movie buffs, we have a great lineup of Movie Matinee features every Wednesday afternoon in the auditorium. This month will feature a nice mix of holiday favorites and new blockbusters. Matinees start at 2 p.m. And join us on Saturday, December 16, at dusk for a Movie Under the Stars. In partnership with the Tropic Theater, the library will screen Mary Poppins outside on Eaton Street. Bring your chairs and enjoy an outdoor movie with the family.
In addition to our engaging program calendar, we also offer important services for the Key West community including Tech Tutor appointments, counseling with Cornerstone, and outreach visits to local senior and community centers.
We can’t wait to see you this holiday season at the little pink library in paradise!
