Newberry Honor Winner Carl Hiaasen spent an hour at the Key West Library with the 5th grade class from Gerald Adams Elementary this past December 8. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Key West Library, each student received a complimentary signed copy of Hiaasen’s new middle-grade reader, Wrecker, which takes place in Key West.

The curious children asked numerous questions on a variety of topics including the writing process and the making of the film Hoot to his scariest moment ever – which was battling a scorpion in his kitchen with a can of bug spray when he was a kid. It was an hour well spent.
