Message from the President-January 2024

Big Plans for the New Year With Our Friends In Mind!

Happy New Year, Friends!

We’re delighted that the high season has arrived — we’ve planned some wonderful events and hope to see you at many of them. But first…

Our pink library does an amazing job helping our community read and listen to books and gather for programs and crafts. Half of the Key West population has library cards — an astonishing number. The Friends’ donations help make the programs and new books possible — we can’t do this without your help! Have you renewed your membership yet? You can do that right here. If possible, we ask you to consider increasing your contribution this year by following this link

Here are a few highlights of Friends activities coming up soon:

The January Book Sale will have an Early Bird opening from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for members only. For early access to the best books, make sure your membership is up to date.

Our Annual Fundraising Gala tickets are on sale now here! We anticipate a fascinating program with our guest of honor Judy Blume in conversation with Pat Scales, an event which is open to the public. Afterwards, in the magically transformed Palm Garden, gala ticket holders will revel in the company of our guests of honor, while also enjoying nibbles and drinks provided by Catered Affairs of Key West.

Last but not least, our 2024 speaker series kicks off on January 15 with Jonathan Escoffery, whose debut short story collection If I Survive You was nominated for more than a dozen literary prizes. (Thanks to the Key West Literary Seminar for the loan of this marvelous writer and speaker.) Registration is not required for this event — seating is first come, first-served. We can’t wait to see you at the library!
