Kim Rinaldi, Senior Branch Manager
Hello Friends! I was checking our weather forecast today and noticed that, as we head into March, we will finally say goodbye to the unseasonably cold spell and warm back up to our typical island temps. And with spring in bloom this month, it’s the perfect time to enjoy your morning cup of coffee and a new book launch in the Palm Garden. We have five authors scheduled this month to entertain us with stories from their newly released novels – Dawn Brotherton (March 5), Katharyn Howd Machan (March 12), Anne Tazewell (March 14), Rosalind Brackenbury (March 19), and an encore presentation by Richard Gomez, aka Captain Conch (March 26). The diverse lineup of titles being presented includes mystery, romance, espionage, poetry, and even a Key West memoir.
If you dream of someday presenting your very own novel in the Key West Library Palm Garden but don’t know where to start, why not come to our new Creative Writing Workshops. Starting March 7 at 4 p.m. and every other Thursday afternoon thereafter, join Carly Neilson for writing exercises, idea sharing, and group encouragement. Carly is the newest member of the library team and studied creative writing at George Washington University and has experience writing in all genres, as well as leading mini workshops. She is excited to share her talents with you and invites all levels to the group. This program is open to adults and teens.
On March 9, the SOS Foundation will hold its annual Field Day at Bernstein Park. This is a great event for families with young children and will include a bouncy house, live DJ, face painting, and even a free lunch courtesy of Jersey Mike’s. The library will be there with games and crafts and, of course, to register folks for library cards. Be sure to stop by our booth and say hello!
We are very excited to welcome back our resident NASA Ambassador, Kevin Gallagher, on March 27 at 6 p.m. I don’t yet have details on his latest presentation, but I can assure you it will be riveting. Get here early to grab a good seat, as his celestial lectures are always well-attended.
I could go on and on, but you will just have to stop in to see more! No time for that? Simply signup for our e-newsletter and have all the events delivered right to your inbox every month.
See you all soon at the little pink library!
