The Key West Library is alive with the sound of music! We will host not one, two, or three, but four musical performances in January. All concerts will be held in our beautiful Palm Garden. Here is the lineup:
Monday, January 6, at 5 p.m.– Hungrytown: Big Stir Records describes this duo as, “a true artistic hybrid, able to hold Celtic and Americana, ballads and psychedelia, sunshine and darkness, joy and despair… Hungrytown’s music has received extensive radio airplay worldwide and has appeared on several television shows, including The Daily Show and Portlandia.”
Monday, January 13, at 4:30 p.m. – Sean Gaskill: The Minneapolis Star Tribune says of Gaskell’s Kora melodies, “Need more proof that music is the greatest international language? Listen to how eloquently Sean Gaskell, a young fella from the grunge and coffee mecca, plays the 21-string West African Kora, a gourd-bottomed harp that delivers both acres of melody and gently rippling rhythms.”
Wednesday, January 15, at 6 p.m. – Grace Morrison and Marc Douglas Berardo: The folk and bluegrass duo bring their Tactical Mistakes Tour to the Key West Library. Be on the lookout for their forthcoming interview in Ink Magazine.
Saturday. January 18, 3 p.m. – Geoff Kaufman: Folk ballads and sea shanties…oh, my!
We are extremely proud to present Haitian filmmaker Alexandrine Benjamin and the screening of her short film, N’AP Boule (Through the Barricades). The film tells the story of a young couple trying to get to a hospital so they can safely have their first child. To get there they must navigate protests, lack of security, and gang violence. The film provides a small window into the situation Haitians currently face every day. A Q&A session with Benjamin will follow the screening. Join us on Wednesday, January 22, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium for this special event.
In addition to our regular lineup of adult craft programs, book club, chess club, movies, and more (signup for our e-newsletter here for more details), we are adding a 3-D Printing class on Thursday, January 9, at 11 a.m. and a Stained-Glass Demonstration on Thursday, January 16, at 11:30 a.m. Our lineup for Café con Libros this month includes two poets — Emily Weekley and Rosanne Potter — and survival adventure novelist, Stan Loveday.
