At the Library — April 2026

Kim Rinaldi, Senior Branch Manager

As the season winds down and many of you prepare to return to your summer residences, don’t forget that the little pink library in paradise has much to offer you in the way of entertainment and learning, even from afar. If you haven’t renewed your year-round library card yet, be sure to visit us before you leave and get that squared away. Otherwise, you could miss out on…

Get Set Up — an online platform that celebrates every older adult, offering opportunities for physical, mental, and social growth and enabling participation in communities with a renewed sense of joy, purpose, and fulfillment. This amazing service designed specifically for adults offers courses in everything from art and nutrition to wealth management and tax assistance. Today’s featured classes include iPad Basics, Chromebook Basics, Beginner Watercolor Flowers, Simplify Your Closet With a Capsule Wardrobe, Optimizing Nutrition for Your Personal Goals, Standing Pilates to Tone Your Obliques, How to Reduce Taxes on Retirement Income, How to Download Books in Libby, and so much more! There is also a Medicare Hub – classes and short videos that answer all of your Medicare questions – and a community section for “zooming” live with others to discuss current events, health, learn a foreign language, a writing group, and much more. Seriously, if you have not checked this out, you are really missing out.

Kanopy – like Netflix, but for true cinephiles. If you are underwhelmed by most popular television, you may find yourself captivated by the content on this streaming service. It has  thought-provoking films, the artsy stuff, those Oscar-winning shorts you never knew existed, foreign films, the British shows, and a whole lot of popular films too. This month’s spotlight is on Steven Speilberg and films for foodies. And remember, it’s free with your library card!

Freegal – don’t pay for music. Let your library provide your tunes with the Freegal app. Everything from Vivaldi to Beyonce, with a few staff-curated playlists thrown in – see Workday Mix and Shades of Kimmie for some GenX classics from Michael and me. You can listen at home, in your car, everywhere for free without commercials. You can even download a few songs every month to keep your ringtones and alarm clock songs fresh. Tell your friends and family to stop paying for music! As my husband Rob always says, let your library card be the soundtrack of your summer!

These are just a few of the many online services you can enjoy over the summer. Go to our website www.keyslibraries.org to discover more. And be sure to stop in and say “hey” before you fly north for the summer. See ya’ll soon at your little pink library in paradise.
