Why Sponsor the Friends of the Key West Library
You have no doubt read that these are challenging time for libraries, including our little pink library in Key West. Budget cuts will inevitably affect us in the upcoming years. Hard decisions will have to be made. Now more than ever, it’s the mission of the Friends of the Key West Library to step up and support this invaluable resource here on the island.
It is hard to overestimate how important our library is to Key West. The numbers tell the story. Key Westers of all ages visited the library some more than 150,000 times in 2024. They gathered to attend some 556 public programs, checked out 92,209 items, and used a computer 9,918 times. Local schools visit the library weekly all year long. Job seekers find critical assistance here. Speakers of other languages learn English. The most staggering statistic is that 50 percent of Key West’s 26,000 residents hold library cards.
Year in and year out, business community leaders have been critical partners in helping the Friends to support the library’s robust collections and services.
The Friends pride ourselves on prudent stewardship and fiscal responsibility. All membership dues go directly to the support of the library. Your sponsorship dollars allow us to direct the profits from our fundraising efforts to the library which is, of course, the mission of the Friends, supporting and promoting this critical resource for Key West school children and residents.
