Book Sales

The Friends of the Key West Library Book Sales are one of our largest and most successful fundraising efforts. In addition to raising money, the sales are also a great opportunity to raise awareness about the library, its services, and our organization.

We sell books in three ways.

Guidelines for donating books to the Friends are here.

Palm Garden Book Sales

Held monthly in the Library Palm Garden from December to March, the Friends of the Key West Library Book Sale is a place that brings the community together. It is amazing what gems can be found among the 3,000 donated books: a book or two, a friend or two, a good conversation, or even a book for a gift. There is always a line of customers waiting for the gates to open.

The Book Sales are concluded for Winter 2023-2024. See you in December!

We thank you — book donors and customers — for your avid support. Your purchases help fund the Key West Library programs for adults and children.

Please note that we will continue taking book donations all year. Books published after the year 2001 are gratefully accepted. Specific details as to what used books and materials the Friends do and do not accept can be found here.

Inside the Library Book Sales

There are recent book titles (published after 2001) available for sale inside the library every day the library is open, year-round. Just choose your books and deposit your cash donation into the slotted box provided. (Please note that the library staff will not be able to take your money or provide change.) The selection is continually refreshed by members of the Friends of the Library.

Rare Book Sales

We sell some of the amazing rare books that have been donated to us at our ebay store. If you have a rare book you’d like to donate, please bring the book or books to the front circulation desk at the library, or contact us. We thank you!

Donating Used Books to the Friends

If you have used books to donate to us, we welcome books that meet these guidelines:

  • current books published after calendar year 2001
  • hardcover or paperback
  • in good condition
  • in the categories of
    • fiction
    • non-fiction
    • mysteries
    • “coffee table” art books
    • children’s books
    • health books if they were published within the last three years

Please bring the books that meet these guidelines to the front circulation desk at the library.

Please note that we can no longer accept:

  • magazines
  • dictionaries, travel guides, reference books, do-it-yourself manuals, or cookbooks.
  • health books unless they were published within the last three years
  • CDs or DVDs.

Note: If you conduct an estate sale with Susie’s Estates, she will sell the books right off your bookshelves. Literacy Volunteers and the Salvation Army also accept used books. You might consider those options for books that the Friends can no longer accept.
