Speaker Series: Mirta Ojito–Inside the library

Mirta Ojito has worked at the Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, and The New York Times. She received an Emmy for the documentary Harvest of Misery and a shared Pulitzer in 2001 for a series about race in America. She is the author of two award-winning nonfiction books. Deeper than the Ocean is her debut novel. This event will be inside the library.

Mirta Ojito will be interviewed by Nancy Klingener. She is the community affairs manager for the Monroe County Public Library. She moved to Key West 35 years ago TODAY [no kidding! It was February 16, 1991!!!] as a reporter for the Miami Herald back when the Herald had a Keys edition and a bureau with two reporters. She has also worked as editor of the late, lamented Solares Hill newspaper and covered the Keys for WLRN, South Florida’s public radio station. Originally from western Massachusetts, she lives in Key West with her husband, the writer and photographer Mark Hedden and their extremely sweet but cowardly dog June.

All speaker series events begin at 6:00 p.m. Speaker Series talks are free. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open at 5:30. We will make every effort to seat everyone.
